ALIA & Future Now - are you interested?

‘FutureNow - Learning for Life’ is the trading name of the WA Arts Sport and Recreation Industry Training Council. To quote from their website (http://www.futurenow.org.au/) ‘FutureNow provides high level strategic advice and leadership to government and industry on the training needs of the creative, cultural and recreation industries.’

ALIA is a member of Future Now, and its current representative is Ruth McIntyre. The benefit of ALIA’s participation in Future Now is that it enables ALIA in WA to have a voice when the national Library Training Package is reviewed. A review of the training package is anticipated in the next couple of years.

Like ALIA, the WA Arts Sport and Recreation Industry Training Council was recently restructured and is now managed by a small elected board, rather than by a committee of the delegates of member organisations. This means that being the ALIA representative is not an onerous task. On the positive side, it is an interesting group to belong to, as there are representatives of a wide range of organisations at functions held by Future Now – for instance the ABC, Country Arts WA, Surf Life Saving WA, Greyhounds WA.

Ruth has been the ALIA representative since 2002 and is ready to hand over to someone else. Ideally the ALIA representative should be a personal ALIA member who has an interest in education and training in the library sector. If you are interested in becoming ALIA’s delegate to Future Now please contact Ruth on rmcintyre@agric.wa.gov.au, or by phone 9368 3611 (Mon, Tue & Wed) or 0409 688 546 to lodge your expression of interest. All applications will be considered early in the new year.
