Literacy Matters: State Library of Western Australia Literacy Strategy 2017 - 2027

On Monday 17th July, a range of stakeholders gathered at the State Library of Western Australia for the official launch of a literacy strategy for WA.

The Library’s literacy strategy champions the role of libraries as key partners in early childhood, family and adult literacy acquisition and lifelong development for all Western Australians.

The guiding principles are inclusion, collaboration, community leadership and sustainability. These four principles alongside three key goals of awareness, opportunity and access will guide the ongoing development of the action plan to align services and programs to achieve the literacy skills needed for living and learning.

Download Literacy Matters to see how you and your library can support and get involved.

Next steps - ALIA has signed up to be part of the WA Literacy Alliance, alongside other amazing organisations that have a touch point with literacy. We will meet again in a few months and  I look forward to reporting back again on other outcomes.
