Our latest event - Thinking Outside the box was a great success. Thank you to ALIA President Damian Lodge who journeyed to Perth to speak to us about the FAIR campaign and the ALIA Futures documents. Damian highlighted the Top 5 Challenges to libraries face right now and we discussed how libraries, and us as librarians, can meet these challenges
We also heard from Lorraine Bradshaw, Bonnie Rae Bruce and Claire Fletcher who spoke about working in non-traditional librarian roles. Each brought a new perspective about the skills and expertise librarians have and how these skills are transferable to other fields. The take home message was to 'think outside the box' and think about how your librarian skills can take you many places, not just to work in a library. Damian also congratulated our own Ghylene Palmer on her election to the ALIA board. Ghylene was given champagne and flowers from the ALIAWest committee as congratulations. A great night had by all, and some great discussion about our profession. Thanks to all who attended. A big thank you to our speakers, especially Damian for travelling to Perth to present.
