Leading Libraries 2!

Leading Libraries is a series of events jointly hosted by ALIAWest and PLA to promote networking and leadership skills amongst West Australian librarians.

The second Leading Libraries event was held on Thursday 29th November at the University of WA's UWAClub. Our speaker for the event, Dr Llandis Barratt-Pugh, Senior Lecturer with Edith Cowan University Business School presented a lively and engaging speech on what research can teach us about leadership and management. He demonstrated how librarians can use their research skills and abilities to develop their networks and create productive, mutually beneficial work relationships with key contacts and stakeholders. Dr Barratt-Pugh provided a great example of the value of story-telling in illustrating and defining key points in a presentation.

The presentation was followed by afternoon tea and drinks in the fabulous new UWAClub building, which was a great chance to meet new contacts and catch up with old friends. As ALIAWest's last event for 2007, this was a great occasion to celebrate a busy and successful year and have a festive drink with colleagues. Leading Libraries sponsor Borders had brought along a great selection of key management and leadership texts to browse, plus a handy catalogue for christmas present ideas!

If you were at the function we'd love to hear your thoughts on the presentation - feel free to post a comment below. The next Leading Libraries event will be held in early 2008 and we look forward to seeing you again then.
